If you need help getting your NOIM witnessed in Southern Tasmania, we can usually point you in the right direction and, where available, help as the witnessing celebrant.
What to Bring
Bring:
- your completed NOIM
- evidence of date and place of birth
- evidence of identity
- proof that any previous marriage has ended, if relevant
- official translations if any document is not in English
Do Both People Need to Attend Together?
No.
You can sign the NOIM:
- together
- separately
- or, in some situations, one signature can begin the notice period if the other cannot conveniently be obtained at least one month before the marriage
Can It Be Witnessed Remotely?
Sometimes, yes.
The law now allows remote witnessing of the NOIM by audio-visual link when an authorised witness offers that service.
Why Use a Celebrant to Witness It?
A celebrant can often help you spot issues early, such as:
- missing ID
- name mismatches
- previous marriage documents
- translation questions
- timing problems with the one-month notice period
What Happens Next
If you are using our paperwork-only marriage service, the usual order is:
- book and pay
- prepare the NOIM
- have it witnessed
- send the paperwork to us
- once it is received and checked, we confirm a date, time, and place based on availability
