Registry-style ceremonies by civil celebrants, not a government registry office. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.

Marriage Witness Service in Tasmania

How the optional marriage witness service works for private paperwork-only marriages in Tasmania, including when couples usually need help.

Australian marriage law requires two witnesses aged 18 or over.

If you do not have your own witnesses, we can usually provide them as an optional service.

When This Helps

Couples often use our witness service when:

  • they are having a very private paperwork-only marriage
  • they are travelling
  • they do not want to involve family or friends
  • one or both planned witnesses have fallen through

What Witnesses Actually Do

The witnesses are there to:

  • be present at the marriage
  • observe what is happening
  • sign the marriage documents

That is the legal role.

Keep It Simple

If you want the cheapest and easiest path, it is often simplest to:

  • book the marriage
  • decide whether you are bringing your own witnesses
  • tell us early if you need us to help

That way we can plan the appointment properly.
