Registry-style ceremonies by civil celebrants, not a government registry office. No fuss, no frills, no wedding. Just paperwork.

Can I Get Married Online?

No. In Australia the marriage itself must happen in person, but some parts of the process can be done remotely.

Short Answer

No. You cannot legally get married online in Tasmania or anywhere else in Australia.

The marriage itself must happen in person.

What Has To Be In Person

For the marriage itself:

  • both people must be physically present
  • the celebrant must be physically present
  • two adult witnesses must be physically present

What Can Be Done Remotely

Some parts of the process can happen remotely, including:

  • booking
  • email communication
  • document review
  • general planning
  • in some cases, remote witnessing of the NOIM by audio-visual link when an authorised witness offers that service

Important Difference

You may be able to prepare or witness the paperwork remotely.

You still cannot be married remotely.
